Meet Op.Dr. Rabican Akkanat

Born in Nicosia, Cyprus, Op. Dr. Rabican Akkanat completed his secondary education at Turkish Maarif College and then moved to Istanbul for university, completing his six-year medical education at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. During medical school, he developed a strong interest in surgery, particularly plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery, and gained international clinical experience to further develop himself in this field.

In 2015, he joined a clinical observation and training program at the Plastic and Hand Surgery / Burn Center of BG University Hospital Bergmannsheil, affiliated with Ruhr University Bochum in Germany. This center is one of Europe's leading referral centers for severe burn treatment, acute and reconstructive hand surgery, and cancer surgery. The experience he gained there allowed him to closely observe the impact of both the aesthetic and reconstructive aspects of plastic surgery on human life and strengthened his decision to specialize in plastic surgery.

After completing medical school, he began his specialty training at Ankara City Hospital, Clinic of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, after succeeding in the Medical Specialty Examination. During five years of intensive training, he gained comprehensive experience in aesthetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery; he took an active role in planning and performing many surgical procedures, especially facial aesthetics, breast aesthetics, and body contouring operations. Throughout his specialty training, he attended many national and international scientific congresses and meetings and delivered poster and oral presentations on these platforms. As part of his academic work, he participated in book translations and played an active role in scientific article preparation and publication processes.

At the core of Op. Dr. Rabican Akkanat's professional approach are natural appearance, functional restoration, anatomical harmony, and individualized planning. He believes that the purpose of aesthetic surgery is not simply to change appearance, but to achieve balanced, natural results that are in harmony with the person's facial and body structure.

Aware that each patient's anatomy and expectations are different, he plans the treatment process through a detailed evaluation; by closely following current surgical techniques and scientific developments, he aims to offer his patients safe and modern treatment options.

After all this education, international experience, and professional background, he returned to Cyprus to share his knowledge and experience with his own community and continues his professional work on the island in service of its people.
